May 2007: Processed Pet Foods - the Lurking Dangers
Following up on the Pet Food Recalls in March and April, we have an overview of the recall events from AVMA; we take a look at other harmful substances which may be lurking in processed pet foods - including menadione (synthetic vitamin K). Suggestions are made for improving your dog's diet, whatever it may be. Two articles reprinted from Canis Major explore solutions to large numbers in animals shelters, and one of those covers the Miniature Schnauzer Maddi, who has a foundation bearing her name to help shelters and shelter dogs. The MINI Magazine salutes our selfless Rescue organizations and volunteers in this issue with a collection of "be-prepared-with-your tissues" stories sent to us by the volunteers themselves. Additionally, we feature photographs (thank you Patti Henderson!) and results from Montgomery County cluster shows, including Sweepstakes judge Mary Paisley's observations on the classes she evaluated. Chris Kemper & her Shangri-la Photography shared photos she snapped at the Atlanta Terrier Specialty, and we have another page of photos from our friends in Australia who held their Royal Melbourne Show and Victoria Schnauzer Club Specialty.
